New Canadian Immigration Program Launched!
The Canadian government has just announced a new immigration program called the Agri-Food Immigration Pilot. This is an exciting new federal immigration program aimed at filling labour shortages in Canada, particularly in the meat processing and mushroom production sectors. This three-year initiative will bring in full-time, non-seasonal foreign workers needed to fill growing labour gaps.
This new pilot aims to bring in 2,750 applicants as well as their family members. This program will provide agri-food workers with an opportunity to become permanent residents following an initial two-year time period working on a temporary work permit.
The occupations and industries eligible under this Canadian immigration program include:
- meat processing (including retail butcher, industrial butcher, food processing labourer
- harvesting labourer for year-round mushroom production and greenhouse crop production
- general farm worker for year-round mushroom production, greenhouse crop production, or livestock raising
- farm supervisor and specialized livestock worker for meat processing, year-round mushroom production, greenhouse crop production or livestock raising.
The Agri-Food Immigration Pilot will start accepting applications in early 2020. In the next few months more information will be released on how immigrants can apply to the program.
