What is it like to live in British Columbia?
If you are thinking of migrating to Canada, you might want to consider moving to British Columbia! With a population of approximately 4.6 million, here is what you need to know about living in British Columbia:
1. Economy
The province has a strong and diversified economy. While it has traditionally been dominated by industries including Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries & Aquaculture, it has now diversified to industries that include Construction, Film and Television and Technology.
2. Employment:
The province remains a good place to find a job in Canada. Employment in B.C. is expected to grow by an average of 1.8 per cent each year through to 2019, creating a total of 450,000 new jobs. Many of these jobs will be created in the service or technology sectors.
3. High Wages:
In 2015, British Columbians working full-time earned an average weekly wage of
$1,054.47 with the average hourly wage for full-time employees in the province
at $26.58 an hour. As of June 2019, B.C.’s minimum wage increased to $13.85 per
hour.
4. Weather:
The province has one of the mildest climates in Canada! For example Vancouver Island, the coastal regions of B.C. and Vancouver have a mild climate with pleasant and warm summers and mild and wet conditions in spring, fall and winter. It rarely snows in the lower areas of this region and if it does snow it usually doesn’t stay around long.
5. Health Care
British Columbia has a great health care system and supports in the event of an emergency. For a minimal monthly fee of $75 CAD or less, the Medical Services Plan (MSP) covers basic medical care within Canada.
6. Schools:
British Columbia’s schools are among the best in Canada. B.C.’s public schools
offer different ways to learn, including learning at a distance and bilingual
education. Because every child has the right to go to school, each community
has one or more local schools children can attend.
With British Columbia’s strong economy, it is a province worth exploring if you would like to migrate to Canada.
