And still be eligible for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP)
On February 12, 2021, The Government of Canada announced new measures making it easier for international students who are studying online to be eligible for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP). Under the previous policy an international student could only take less than 50% of their program online in order to be eligible for a PGWP. With the challenges of the pandemic and the extensive travel restrictions many international students who currently hold a valid study permit may not be able to enter Canada to take the remainder of their program in person.
Understanding the challenges that international students face during this pandemic, The Government of Canada has introduced a new policy allowing international students to be able to receive a post-graduation work permit even if they complete 100% of their studies online. This new policy will allow current international students who hold a Canadian study permit to be able to take advantage of work opportunities in Canada upon their graduation. It also opens the doors to allow international graduates to gain valuable Canadian work experience after graduation
The Canadian government continues to take steps to help international students through this difficult time by offering open work permits to former international students who have held or hold a graduate work permit (PGWP).
