Mandatory quarantine requirements have been released
On January 31, 2021, The Government of Canada announced new travel restrictions to curb the COVID-19 pandemic. One of these travel restrictions includes mandatory quarantine at a designated hotel for all international travelers who are flying into Canada. On February 19th, the federal government announced the details for the mandatory quarantine hotel stay-over. If you are travelling to Canada here is what you need to know: 1. Pre-departure COVID-19 test: If you are traveling to Canada you must take a COVID-19 test and present proof of a negative test result to the airline prior to boarding your flight. This test has to be taken within 72 hours of your arrival in Canada. 2. Book your hotel: If your flight to Canada is scheduled within the next 48 hours, you must reserve a room at a Canadian government-approved hotel at your own expense for a minimum of 3 days. Once you have booked a reservation, you will receive an email confirmation within four hours of your booking and a phone call within two hours of your arrival. Please note, the cost varies from hotel to hotel, however your stay will include room and meals (3 meals a day). 3. Arrival COVID-19 test: Once you arrive in Canada you will need to take another COVID-19 molecular test at your own expense. 4. Mandatory Quarantine: After you take your COVID-19 test you will head to your hotel for the 3 day hotel stopover as part of the mandatory quarantine requirements while you wait for the results of your COVID-19 test. 5. Wait on your results Negative Test Result If you receive a negative test before or at the end of your three-day stay, you can complete the rest of your quarantine in the 14-day period if you have an approved quarantine plan. If you do not have a suitable quarantine plan, you will go to a designated federal quarantine facility to complete it. Positive Test Result If you have received a positive test, you will stay in your room and will be given instructions by an official from the Public Health Agency of Canada. You will have to isolate for 14 days from when your sample was taken. Inconclusive Results If you have not received a result of your COVID-19 test within 3 days or if the result is inconclusive, you will have to stay in your room. You will be called by an official from the Public Health Agency of Canada who will provide you with additional details and instructions. Please note that these guidelines are subject to change.
